I would boot off of a SSD drive or a pair of SSD drives, they would be even faster off of pcie adaptors. i use a Macbook for DJing and photo editing, its been through hell and back over 5 years and still working, bars full of drunk people, venues that are hot with spilled drinks etc, my 10 year old unibody is still also working with no issue, although i dont use it due to having a none retina screen so its just a spare at present to cover if the other one goes down.
